Fundamentals

Blackwall offers two options to meet the needs of our different users:

  • Blackwall Dashboard - All users (end users and hosting providers) use the Blackwall Dashboard, which provides an easy, fast, and managed method to defend websites against bots, DDoS attacks, and other online threats. For individual websites, this dashboard provides direct protection without requiring any infrastructure management.

  • Blackwall GateKeeper - For hosting providers managing multiple customer websites, we additonally offer Blackwall GateKeeper, which is a self-hosted reverse-proxy that integrates directly into your hosting infrastructure. GateKeeper works as a local instance on the provider’s side, but it relies on the Blackwall Dashboard for core management functions such as traffic control, subaccount management, and configuration settings. GateKeeper uses the GateKeeper API, which proxies requests to our API server in the cloud, ensuring seamless alignment between local infrastructure and centralized management via the Blackwall Dashboard.

While the protection remains fundamentally the same for both individual website owners and hosting providers, the level of control differs. Individual website owners rely on the Blackwall Dashboard for simplified management, with Blackwall handling traffic analysis within our infrastructure. Hosting providers on the other hand, gain full control, including subaccount management, advanced settings, and the ability to host GateKeeper (as a single instance or a cluster) directly within their own hosting infrastructure, with traffic analysis performed locally.
